Pre-Purchase Education – Our Financial Freedom classes help future homebuyers overcome credit obstacles and master their money. In Homebuyer Education, students learn the basics of the home selection and purchase process in seminar-style sessions led by professionals from mortgage companies and banks, title companies, home inspections firms, Realtor’s offices, and others. Our next free class is March 29th at our office at 922 Franklin Ave. Call us today at 254.752.1647 to reserve your space today!
Post-Purchase Education – In our post-purchase class, entitled Sustain the Gain, homeowners brush up on financial concepts and pick up new tips on topics like insurance, refinancing, and avoiding foreclosure. Most importantly, students also learn to perform basic home maintenance and repairs in hands-on exercises.
NeighborWorks® Waco is proud to bring the community Project A.S.P.I.R.E., a financial literacy program based on the needs of Waco’s youth. Project A.S.P.I.R.E., Assisting Students in Preparing, Inquiring, Reaching and Envisioning, aims to give students the personal finance skills they need to be make responsible decisions regarding their money. NeighborWorks® Waco is a partner in education with the new Indian Spring Middle School, bringing fun financial literacy activities to the school for a weekly class. The class is a 5-6 week long program, focusing on topics such as credit cards vs. debit cards, the basics of personal banking and includes at least one guest speaker per each cycle. Our lending specialist, Ruben Andrade, and our AmeriCorps VISTA member, Stormy Campbell, bring lessons to a class of 20+ students every Friday during an elective period. Each lesson is tailored to the middle school student population, accommodating their questions and topic suggestions.
Project A.S.P.I.R.E.’s latest endeavor is an opportunity camp during the week of Spring Break. This exciting opportunity will function as a series of workshops in an effort to provide this group of 25 middle school students skills they will need to succeed after high school. Topics such as interview skills, resume writing, basic personal finances and college visits will be offered. Of course, there will also be time to play and be active during the week! We hope this day camp will open the students’ eyes to the possibilities of higher education and/or job opportunities so they can ASPIRE to be the best they can be!
For more information or to bring Project A.S.P.I.R.E. to your school, contact Stormy Campbell at projectASPIRE@nw-waco.org. Be sure to check out the Facebook page for more resources and updates!

Free Income Tax Preparation
Your tax return belongs to you...it's your money! So why would you give $300 of it to a commercial tax preparer to file your simple forms when there's a better alternative? Our IRS-certified preparers can help decipher confusing tax laws and navigate through the forms to get you every dollar you have coming. And it won't cost you a penny for this service.
The Asset Building Coalition of Waco (ABC Waco), coordinated by NeighborWorks® Waco, assists low- and moderate-income, disabled, elderly, and English Second Language taxpayers in achieving a better quality of life through community partnerships that deliver financial education and awareness, build assets, and provide tax preparation assistance. Last year, ABC Waco worked with AARP Tax-Aide and A.J. Moore Academy to provide eight different free tax preparation sites throughout the Waco area. Roughly $5.3 million was refunded to the 3,500 taxpayers who used these sites.
