Our new construction is experiencing rising prices from our original estimates. This stems from the cost of building materials, which may be returning to lower valuations, and supplies availability. Still suffering from pandemic-related supply chain issues, much of the building industry endures production challenges and shortages. NeighborWorks Waco is committed to overcoming these obstacles and continuing to provide safe, stable, affordable housing for the families of the greater Waco area.

I am honored to acknowledge Karen Saucedo for her 20 years of service to the organization and community. She has achieved many milestones with NeighborWorks Waco through her ability to successfully multi-task varied projects throughout our community. We appreciate her hard work and dedication, and thank her.

Project SAVER assist families in need of credit improvement. Many NeighborWorks clients do not have a checking or savings account, many don’t own a debit card. Some clients live life on a weekly basis, paycheck to paycheck. The financial counseling and education services that accompany our credit building program not only help clients improve their credit, but also discuss banking, saving, budgeting, and responsible use of credit. We are excited to be opening this program for a third round, and look forward to improving the lives and financial situations of 30 families.

Finally, our partner, AARP’s Tax-Aide program had a successful year considering the winter weather and strict pandemic requirements. This service is valuable to all in our community. By saving taxpayers money on tax preparation services, this program encourages further economic investment in our local community. Our hope is that many of these families might use the money they save, and their tax return, to purchase a home with NeighborWorks Waco.

It is a great time to be serving the community through affordable housing and I expect we will see continued interest in the services of NeighborWorks Waco.
