In 2018 the department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) created a certification for Housing Counselors. The goal was to ensure a high standard of financial and housing counseling for families seeking those services from HUD approved and funded agencies.

NeighborWorks Waco receives federal funds through HUD for our Housing Counseling efforts, and would therefore be held to the new guidelines imposed by HUD. Initially, the deadline to earn this certification was August 1, 2020, though the pandemic has caused a year postponement for requirements.

Over the previous months, Delisa, Juan, and Chris have spent hundreds of hours studying, attending webinars, and preparing for HUD’s exam. Topics were arduously detailed and spanned a century of housing practices and laws.

Despite a notoriously difficult test, NeighborWorks Waco is proud to announce that Delisa, Juan, and Chris have all earned certification in accordance with HUD’s new standards, and were able to do so before the initial August deadline of this year.

The standard of service that Juan provides to counseling clients has always been exceptionally high, but with so many of our Homeownership team educated and certified, we expect our clients to receive some of the most outstanding service available.
