Natividad is a cherished former client of NeighborWorks Waco. Her housing journey is a tough one of triumph over extreme difficulty. Like many people, she faced confusing, difficult and complex systems that NeighborWorks helped her navigate. Here is a little of here story.

  1. What did NeighborWorks help you to do?

They helped me buy a house!

2. Tell me a little more about that process of getting your home through NeighborWorks.

My husband and I were involved in a reverse mortgage situation, in which, I wasn’t a co-signer because I was not “of-age”. When he passed, folks tried to take the house. When we got that situation resolved, they said I could go ahead and stay there for the rest of my life. I didn’t want to. So, I turned to Delisa [NeighborWorks Waco’s Vice President and Chief Operations Officer]. My husband had volunteered with NeighborWorks, and I knew and trusted her. I asked her to help me, and she did! She found me someone to do financing, and she got me realtor who worked with me to find the right house. She really got the ball rolling. I ended up in the house I have now, which I am very happy with!

3. Was the process easy?

It was fairly easy considering I am not much of a business person. My husband always took care of the bills, and took care of this and that. So, I was kind of flying blind, working my way through. But they made it easy. They seemed to understand what I was going through. They helped me out. I talked to Mr. Nash [NeighborWorks Waco’s President and CEO] and he just couldn’t believe that [the reverse mortgage] had given us that much, considering the shape of the house. But NeighborWorks was a pretty easy process, to me. The hardest part was waiting to find the perfect home. But as far as getting me financial help, they did it all. I am very grateful for NeighborWorks Waco.
