Project Homeless Connect: Nonprofits Partner to Offer Resource Fair
Waco, TX – July 31, 2017 – Several nonprofits across Central Texas partnered to host Project Homeless Connect: Summer Edition, an opportunity for Waco’s homeless to access a variety of social services and resources from local organizations. NeighborWorks Waco’s next-door lot, located at 1001 Mary Avenue, bustled with activity on July 28th during Project Homeless Connect. Serving over 90 individuals, The Heart of Texas Homeless Coalition, NeighborWorks Waco, and The Department of Veteran Affairs worked together to present an all-inclusive resource fair.
A long-running annual event, Project Homeless Connect offers the City an opportunity to collect critical data on the number and state of the homeless population in the City of Waco. For the past two decades, this information has been an integral part of obtaining grants to assist in reducing homelessness in our community.
Local volunteers and organizations gathered to serve those experiencing homelessness in our community. This one-day outreach program offered many services, including dental information, employment assistance, health and vision screening, HIV testing, housing information, hygiene items, sun screen and bug spray, pet care, social services, veterans benefits, and more! It is difficult to put into words the gratitude expressed during the event, but the pictures below give a glimpse into the excitement of the day. Special thanks to all the organizations that worked together to make the event a success.
