On April 28th, NeighborWorks Waco participated in a local “Day of Service” volunteer activity hosted by two local churches. This is the second year that NeighborWorks Waco has worked with both Harris Creek Baptist Church and Woodway First United Methodist Church to identify painting and beautification projects for their congregations.
In March, NeighborWorks Waco requested project submissions from the public throughout the Waco area and received more than 25 responses from families in need. The staff at NeighborWorks then worked through the submissions, identifying the level of expertise needed for each project, estimating the number of volunteers, and predicting cost of materials necessary for each submission.
Projects ranged from simple yard beautification and tree trimming requests to paint projects and beyond. Project submissions were then presented to the participating churches who could select projects based on their unique volunteer base. This year we were excited to coordinate six projects, and through the generous donation by Sherwin Williams Paint, almost all supplies were provided.
It is estimated that over 125 volunteers participated in this year’s “Day of Service” activity!
