Ed Uber has spent years volunteering to provide free tax preparation services to Wacoans. For his dedication and service, he was honored at NeighborWorks Waco’s 25th annual meeting (pictured below). He sent the following letter to NeighborWorks Waco staff to detail his experiences during the 2019 tax season:

It has been another very successful year for the AARP TaxAide volunteers who support the tax payers in the local Waco area. The NeighborWorks Waco TaxAide group is managed by Ed Uber, with his supporting staff of Marilyn Patterson, Sal Tahiri, Barry Abel, Brenda Coffman, Ida McBride, Rose Freeman and Joyce Maresh. The entire team provided outstanding service to taxpayers in your area. Their personal dedication to the program is the catalyst which creates the atmosphere for such a rewarding, compassionate, and neighborly model for success.

But, without the support of you the NeighborWorks Waco staff, this successful endeavor would not have been possible. I express my utmost appreciation and gratitude for all that you did to make this another successful year. You graciously also allow us to use the NeighborWorks Waco facility annually as the command post for our local operations and for our new counselor training. We thank you for this extraordinary giving and look forward to continuing this successful alliance.

This past year, at the NeighborWorks Waco TaxAide Site, a total of 526 returns were completed and filed for taxpayers, which resulted in local people receiving $536,830 in tax refunds.

Our entire district 24 TaxAide program (NeighborWorks Waco, Providence Hospital, Hewitt first Baptist Church and Fairfield first United Methodist Church) completed and filed 1,626 tax returns resulting in refunds of $1,418,217. A great achievement provided by the cooperation of the IRS and the AARP TaxAie program.

Very Best Regards

-Edward G. Uber, AARP TaxAide District Coordinator.
